Candle Burning Magic Information : The Zodiac Candles and their Colors

Candle Burning Magic Information, The Colors of the Zodiac Candles

In Candle burning magic, we use candles to represent the person or people for whom the ritual is done. These candles are chosen according to the astrological sign of these.

There are several systems that correspond a colour to a sign, and some even correspond a primary and one or more secondary colours. Here I am going to give you some of these systems. Which one is the best, is for you to choose. What I would advise though, is as soon as you find which system express you the best, stick to it and do not change it.

Now, the first index is in fact based on alchemy and the planet that rules each sign. Concerning Magic, there are only seven planets and not ten. So here it is:

candle magic spells colors of zodiac candles colours of zodiac candles planat rulers

Now, in the index below follow the columns from top to bottom to see the system. Both systems repeat themselves in dusty Medieval Grimoires and also latest Books of Shadows. The logic and the origin of the correspondences is complicated and only few know why each color corresponds to the each sign. Nevertheless there are many witches and wizards who still use these two systems. We provide it for you too without having to search large tomes of complicated and suspicious magic.

So, see the systems, choose the one you prefer or find another or make your own, but after that stay faithful to it.

Have Fun!

Elemental Magic of Earth: Dirt and Problems I Leave behind!

Persephone, the daughter of the Demeter,
Goddess of the Earth.
both associated with Life and Death,
Spring and Autumn
Copyright of the Picture remains unkonwn
We have started our Elemental Magic series with the flexible and communicative element of Air! We now proceed with a simple yet effective Earth Magic spell.

But first things first! Let's talk about Earth! Earth as all elements has a versatile nature. Earth is both associated with Fertility and Sterility, with Life and Death! This is something you have to understand first. Earth is our base, our begging, our start yet it is also our end! In Earthly caves the primitive humans were hiding so that their life could bloom but at the same time they buried in earth their dead friends and family.

So as the Element can be both Fertile and Sterile so as the soil itself. We see the forests and we also see the deserts! We see life blooming from the Earth and we also have seen corpses of dead animals and dried flowers!

Do this spell on Waning Moon! So pick a problem you want to get rid off and go out. Find a place were land is sterile, were no plant have sprouted. Find a quiet spot where no one seems to bother you and sit on earth. Face the direction of your return!

Now take a handful of the sterile soil. Look on the soil and think of your problem. Think every detail of it. Think of how it bothers you. Think of the ways it affects you life. Stare at the soil, stare intensively. Keep thinking the problem for some minutes, try to find every disgusting aspect of it, every disturbing detail.

Now throw the sterile soil behind you, stand up, take a big refreshing breath and say:

I am now totally free, I feel now secure,
my problems have left my life I feel great anew!

Walk away and don't look back!

Bear in mind that as with the divination techniques, every element is equally powerful and it's up to you which you will chose to use! Your choice will have to do with the nature of the problem or with which element you feel more powerful and close to!

Earth magic is slow and requires patience yet it is steady and really strong ! These are the virtues of the solution it will come to help you with your problem! If you want a rather quick change choose Fire or Air! But these are the things we are going to analyze further in our future articles!

Change Yourself, Change the World!

Le Château des Carpathes, The Vampires of Crete

Les Château des Carpathes
by Jules Verne first published in 1893
Le Château des Carpathes :

A new series of interesting and sometimes funny hoaxes which refer to the occult or the Supernatural. We may be Witches or Mages but we never lose our sense of humor and our common sense!

Starting with ... The Vampires of Crete!

On the Greek island of Crete, around two centuries ago, an appearance of two vampires occurred – actually Crete has many stories of vampires – maybe better known in England than in Greece, as the story is mentioned in Robert Pashley’s book “Travels in Crete”. Now, here is how I know it.

An old widower miller lived with his two beautiful young daughters peacefully. The old man was very religious and knew well that the devils crawl around on the earth waiting to catch their victim’s souls, so he tried to be, as much as a man can be, close to the church and God.

But, one night he woke up from some noise coming from his daughters’ room. But the noise stopped. So he went to sleep once more.

The Sun raised and as soon, his daughters start yelling and crying. Two vampires had come in the night in their room to torture them. The pour girls were so much scared that they didn’t dare to scream and call for help. They thought, they said, that they were as good as dead and felt hopeless because who could help them against these devils after all?

Their old father knowing that only God can protect people from the undead, did what he could. Put some crosses to the windows and doors of the house, believing that this would be enough.

map of Crete, the beautiful island of Greece

But one or two nights after that, once again some noise woke him up, coming from his daughters’ room. Could it be again the vampires? He wanted to go to their room to help them, but what could an old man do against two vampires, or maybe now some more? So he locked his door and started praying to the Almighty for protection.

Not long before the Sunrise the fuss stopped. He waited a little to be sure. It seemed like his prayers were answered. He waited a little more, and when on the edge of dawn run to his daughter’s room.

The poor girls were exhausted and scared, crying. The two vampires had come once more. The crosses hadn’t scared them at all. And the vampires tortured them more violently than before.

The old miller asked the villagers what he should do. And he used all talismans that he was advised to use in order to protect the house and his daughters.

But night after night, the vampires were coming, torturing his daughters more and more, flying around the room, jumping and dancing as only devils can. So they said, because the old man, scared for his soul, locked himself into his room, praying ceaselessly. After all, if the crosses, the garlic, the holy water and all these powerful talismans had no power over this grisly beings what an old man could do?

As every night the things were worse than the previous, his love for his daughters fought the love for his soul. And one night, he found the courage, and waited armed with his pistol and the love of God, to try to kill the beasts as they would leave the house just before dawn. After all, even if he just managed to delay them, the Sun would burn them up to hell.

So as the vampires went out of the window of his daughters’ room he fired the gun.

He missed. Thankfully enough, and the two young lovers of the girls, living and not undead, run away as quickly as they could, as the girls were begging their father not to shoot.

Sometimes, circumstances and conditions and maybe a clever plan of some people, just like the plan of the miller’s daughters, may manage to build up a “supernatural” event where there is nothing more than actions of humans and/or nature.

Keep calm and Dive in Emerald Green Waters of Greece

So, we decided to start a new category in our blog presenting examples of such events, that although they were assumed to be of supernatural type, they have been proven to be natural. That is why we named this new series from Jules Verne marvellous book “Le Château des Carpathes” (or as published in English “The Castle of the Carpathians”, “Carpathian Castle”, “The Castle in Transylvania”).

We hope you will enjoy it!

Mercury in Vedic Astrology and Lord Budha

Vedic Astrology : Mercury and Lord Budha

In Vedic Astrology planet Mercury has a neutral nature concerning its sex. That means it is neither male nor female, and not both male and female. It also considers Sun, Venus and Rahu as Friends, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn as Equals, and Moon as Enemy. Now, remember that Sun sees Mercury as Equal, Moon sees Mercury as Friend and Mars sees Mercury as Enemy.

Mercury’s colour is green, its stone is the green emerald, its metal is brass (which is an alloy of copper and zinc), but also any mixture of metals or metallic alloy, as well as mercury, although I am not sure if this is a loan of the western astrology or not. Mercury’s season is Autumn and its element is Earth.

Mercury owns Gemini and Virgo, it is exalted in Virgo, having its greatest exaltation on the 15th degree of Virgo, and it is debilitated in Pisces, having its lowest debilitation on the 15th degree of Pisces. What Mercury would call home and not just house (its Mooltrikona) is the area from the 16th to 20th degree of Virgo, while the first 15 degrees are the area of its exaltation.

By nature Mercury is considered mild beneficial or sometimes even neutral, as his position and aspects strongly define his malefic or beneficial aspect.

Mercury offers intelligence and rationality, nice and influencing speech, adaptability, good taste, artistic nature and a good sense of humour.

Lord Budha Vedic AStrology planet Mercury
Lord Budha
Mercury governs the nervous system, the bowels, the arms, the mouth, with the exception of teeth, and the sight. It also rules study and teaching, understanding, learning through experience, and imitation. It also influences, all kinds of communication, as well as the communication with the Divines, and therefore the ceremonial magic, being it of organized religions or not. But keep in mind that he most probably make a priest or mage than a theologian or philosopher (these are under Jupiter), as it is more practical than theoretical.

Almost in every house Mercury, if not having negative aspects, will give its blessings, including money, status, children and brothers, education, and good relations of every nature.

In the sixth house though, would give obstacles in achieving the desired education and success in business matters. If Mercury is in the tenth house the person is most possible to become a priest or ceremonial mage.

The Gods associated with the planet Mercury are Lord Budha, and the Great Lord Vishnu. The Graha is Lord Budha.

As mentioned in the post regarding Moon and Lord Chandra, Lord Budha is the first son of Lord Chandra and the Goddess Tara, the wife of Lord Brihaspati (Jupiter), and so another name of Lord Budha is Sowmya, which means “born by Soma”.

The Harivamsha Parva of the Mahabharata says that Brihaspati reclaiming Tara started a war with Lord Chandra. I should mention that Lord Sukra (God of Venus) joined forces with Lord Chandra, while the Great Lord Rudra joined forces with Lord Brihaspati. Anyway, the things went mad and Great Lord Brahma stopped the war demanding Tara to go back to her husband.

At that time Tara was almost ready to give birth, and Lord Brihaspati asked her to do so at once as her containing someone’s other seed was indiscreet. So, Tara gave birth to the child. The baby’s body was glowing like a ritual fire, and appeared as an enemy slayer, as the parva states.

So the devas start wondering if he is a child of Brihaspati or one of Soma and asked Tara, but she refused to answer. The newborn child get angry and wanted to curse his mother, but Great Lord Brahma stop the curse saying that if Tara don’t answer, only then the curse would take effect. So Tara stated that the child was one of Lord Soma, who embraced at once his son naming him Budha.

Now, as about who were the acting parents of Lord Budha, the Mahabharata sais nothing, as goes from his birth to his becoming father, so there are two options. The one assumes that Lord Chandra and his wife Rohini raised the child, while others believe that Lord Brihaspati and Tara raised him. That is why sometimes Lord Budha is called son of Rohini while other times is called son of Brihaspati.

Lord Budha marries lady Ila, and has a son with her the great king Pururava. Should I mention that although Ila is the mother of Pururava and Budha the father of him, Ila is both male and female, something that by delivering Pururava achieved, as Lord Mitra and Lord Varuna, the creators of Ila had promised to her.

Please note that she is not hermaphrodite. When he is a male, under the name Sudyumna, he is a complete male, and when she is a female she is a complete female. Sudyumna fathered three sons Utkala, Gaya and Vinata-ashva. These three boys are not sons of Budha, but sons of Sudyumna (which is male) and Vaivasvata Manu (also male).

Vaisvata Manu is an expression of the Sun (Surya) and the metre of time, and who through a Vedic ritual asked Mitra and Varuna to create Ila, therefore Ila is considered daughter of Vaisvata Manu. Also Ikshvaku is a son (the first son) of Vaisvata Manu.

And so, from Chandra comes Budha and from him and the Sun descendant Ila starts the Lunar dynasty from which Lord Krishna will be born, while from the other son of Vaisvata Manu, Ikshvaku (who then is as well son of Surya), the Solar dynasty starts, from which Lord Rama will be born.

Now back to Lord Budha. As the teacher of the deities, Lord Brihaspati, was not very fond of him, he was not well educated, so Budha prayed to Great Lord Brahma or Great Lord Vishnu (depending on the tradition) for several years in order to obtain knowledge.

Great Lord Brahma was pleased with his prayers and gave to Lord Budha knowledge on all things, and made him a Buddha (illuminated). Or Great Lord Vishnu was pleased with his prayers and gave to Lord Budha the knowledge of all the Vedas and the arts.

Lord Budha’s vehicle is a Lion which sometimes is winged. He also can be pictured as sitting on a carpet, yes maybe the first flying carpet, for Tara gave birth to him on a carpet made of sacred grass. Other times he is in a chariot that is carried either by lions or yellow horses. His clothes are mainly yellow. He wears much jewellery, most of them also of yellow (golden maybe) colour. His skin can be green or greenish.

He most often has one head, and four arms, usually two of them holding weapons (a sword and a club most probably), one a shield, and the forth either gives blessings, or holds a lotus flower (meaning again the same).

One should call upon Lord Budha to:
* Avoid the malefic influences of Mercury and to magnify the beneficial ones.
* Improve his speaking and communication skills.
* Improve writing (for authors).
* Improve any and every skill in arts.
* End a period of drought.
* Better their business, especially concerning trade of any kind and occult services.
* Fight depression and luck of concentration
* Help in healing headaches, neck aches and other neurobehavioral pains.
* Help in healing sexual diseases and chronic diseases of the bowels.
* Help in healing rheumatism and all diseases causing restriction of dexterity.
* Undo laziness and dullness as well as restlessness.
* Achieve better results in any ceremonial practise.
* Have good luck in gambling.
* Be respected for their opinion and individuality.
* Be accepted for their sexual orientation.
* And finally many call upon him to be helped in homosexual love affairs .

The number of Mercury is 4, so the magic square (Yantra) of Mercury starts with 4.

The simplest mantras of Mercury are:

Om Budhaya namah(a)
Om bum Budhaya namah(a)
Om bram breem braum sah Budhaya namah(a)

Repeat the mantra for one mala (108 times) or 3 malas, starting on Wednesday for 14 or 40 days over – or holding – the yantra and/or an emerald.

It is said that if you chant the mantra for 17 malas (1836 times) for three consecutive days you will also have the desired results in a hurry. I haven’t tried that, as you’ll be needing about three hours for each session. If you do try it, please let me know.

Creatures of Light and Dark : Strix and Shtriga, Two entities, one beast.

There is a vampiric monster, common to many nations, known with almost the same (phonetically) name. In Greek is Strigla (Στρίγγλα, plural Strigles), in Albanian is Shtriga (plural Shtrigat), and in Latin is Strix (plural Striges). In addition in all these names the monster has almost the same properties. While one would assume that this monster is globally the same, interestingly enough, the monster comes from two different entities.

The Latin word Strix, comes from the Greek word of the same sound, Strix or Striga (Στριξ, Στρίγγα), which means Owl.

Stiga Strix Shtriga Strigla Strzyga Vampiric entities
Strix
The Greek mythographer Boios/Boeus (Βοίος) in his work Ornithogonia describes the birth of the first Strix. Unfortunately his book is not saved, but thankfully Antoninus Liberalis’s only saved work “Metamorphoseon Synagoge” (Μεταμορφώσεων Συναγωγή), sometimes called as “Metamorphoses” has saved for us the Ornithogonia’s story of the Strix.

According to Antoninus Liberalis or Boios, God Ares with the daughter of the River-God Strymon, Tereine, gave birth to Thrassa. Thrassa with Hipponous (Ιππόνοος), not the homonymous son of Priam, but the son of Triballus (the King of the Triballi tribe of Thrace), gave birth to Polyphonte (Πολυφόντη), who therefore is granddaughter of Ares.

Polyphonte became very fond of Goddess Artemis and so she became follower of her and remained virgin. But this made furious Goddess Aphrodite who then forced her to fall in love and have sex with a wild bear. From this union two twin boys were born.

Artemis though, got angry with Polyphonte and she, along with all the forest’s animals, chased her until she went back to her father’s home, where her two half men and half bear twins, Orius and Agrius, were born. Because of all these hatred towards their mother and themselves, the two boys hated both Gods and humans and became cannibals.

Zeus ordered Hermes to punish them as he saw fit, and Hermes decided to dismember them. Ares objected though, in order to protect his great grandsons, and thus Hermes turned Orius into an eagle-owl and Agrius into a vulture.

He also transformed Polyphonte into a small owl “that cries by night, without food or drink, with head below and tips of feet above, a harbinger of war and civil strife to men”. Do notice that what Antoninus describes is more possible to be a bat than an owl, but still he names her “strix”. And so the first Strix was created!

Later, Horace in his “Epodes” will give to the Strix magical abilities, and Ovid will teach us that a strix may be born as a strix, or become a strix through a spell.

Also Ovid will tell the story of Striges attacking King Procas during the celebrations of the Summer Solstice and narrates how they were warded off by the use of beans and calmed down with pig meat. And this is why beans and pig meat should be eaten during the Summer Solstice. And do remember the reference to the pig as I am going to mention it again later.

So, the Latin Strix is coming from Polyphonte, what about the Albanian Shtriga?

Well, the Albanian Shtriga, and the Greek Strigla, comes from the Greek word Strigla, and Strigla is Megera (Greek Μέγαιρα, Latin Megaera), one of the three Erinyes, the “Furies”. There are several opinions on how the three of them were born, but all of them have something to do with death. Either they came to exist from the blood of Uranus when the latest was stabbed by Cronus, or they are daughters of God Pluto (Hades), or they were daughters of Acheron (Stiga), the river of the Underworld.

Now Megera is incarnation of envy and jealousy (Alecto is anger and Trisiphone is murder). Orpheus seems to consider her more fearsome and therefore he treats her a little more carefully. In his hymns to the Erinyes and Eumenides (both words refer to the same Goddesses) he describes them – among else – as moving very fast and by flying, acting in the night, with fearsome and ugly look, dark in colour, with snake-like hairs, thin, capable of changing their forms, invisible or air-thin, and also that through their eyes they destroy human flesh, that they cause paralysis and bring heavy aches.

In everyday speaking, the Italian word megera, the Greek words Megera and Strigla, and the Albanian word Shtriga all have the same meaning; an evil woman as well as an evil female witch. But what about the monsters with the same name?

Strix, Shtriga, and Strigla as monsters are almost the same as well. The main difference is that while Strix in order to attack turns herself into an owl, Shtriga turns herself into a flying insect, and Strigla would not change her form. Also Strigla is a mortal witch, while Shtriga can be either undead or human (that will become undead), and Strix is undead that pretends to be a woman.

From now on I will refer to them using the word Shtriga as whatever is going to be mentioned applies to all of them. If it is necessary, I will state it clearly.

The British writer Mary Edith Durham in her book “High Albania” gives us enough information about the nature of the Shtriga. She says that she is a vampiric woman that sucks the blood of children and the life force of both children and grown humans alike. She may live for long time in a village pretending to be a woman, while she is preparing her evil plan.

In order to catch the Shtriga, you should take the bones of the last pig (remember Ovid’s story?) you ate during the carnival and with them you should make a cross on the door of the church upon Easter Sunday, when everyone is in the church. If this is done, the Shtriga will be unable to exit the church.

It is also said that only the Shtriga can cure the evil she has caused to a person by spitting in the persons mouth before the Sun sets the next time.

Also the Shtriga can causes great and incurable pains and aches (remember the Megera?), but in this case there is a solution if the Shtriga cannot be found in time. A mage should cut some hairs from the head and from each armpit of the victim and burn them saying a spell and the pain will vanish. I will come to the spell later in this post.

If the Shtriga sucks the blood of a person, she will go somewhere that she thinks nobody can see her, and vomit it. It is said that if you rub a silver coin in this blood and have it with you, you are safe from any Shtriga for all times.

Ovid also says that if you sprinkle around your home and on your doors blessed water and put hawthorn to your windows you’ll be safe from the Shtriga.

Later, coming to the 20th century, garlic is mentioned as well for protecting someone from the Shtrigat.

In rare cases the Shtriga will eat the flesh of her victims. Also sometimes the Shrigat do nothing more than foretell the death of a resident of a house or a relative of them, by screaming outside the house. That is also a common belief for owls.

For those who didn’t want to leave things up to chance, offerings to the Shrigat were made; pig meat would be the best choice. But when Pope Zacharias, through the Synod of Rome (734 A.D.), forbade all offerings to the spirits (even the ones of Angels and Christian Saints) as act of idolatry or demonolatry, this practice ended and therefore it is not very well known, although it is one of the most ancient.

Stiga Strix Shtriga Strigla Strzyga Erinyes Megera
Erinyes
Now, in folklore there is no suggested way in order to really kill a Shtriga. The TV series “Supernatural” states that you can kill one with a blessed bullet, but don’t count on it. As Shtriga being a vampiric entity I believe they can be terminated as all the vampires. But keep in mind that the Slavic Strzyga (which is not exactly the same thing but something alike) has two hearts and not just one.

Now, the actions of the Shtrigat and the power of the Evil Eye are considered very strongly linked. Most of the talismans that are used for protection from the Evil Eye are considered to offer protection from the Shtrigat to one level or another. Also all the spells I know to remove the problems that a Shtriga (or Shtrigë as it would be the correct grammatical form) causes are in fact spells to remove the Evil Eye. Keep in mind though, that for the Shtriga you should use spells that are Earth and Fire based and not Water and Air based, as on these elements the Shtriga has more power (maybe this is because of the Megera)

So, to perform the previous ritual, find somebody that can perform a strong evil eye removing spell. Have him/her cut some hair from your head and some from each of your armpits and then burn them while he or she chants the spell.

Finally, I should mention that Italians, and especially Venetians, believe that if a girl is born during Christmas Eve, she is, or will become, a Strix, while Greeks believe that Strigles usually eat their food (dead animals, insects, small lizards etc) on the streets, and if somebody passes and steps on their food, they curse him. Remember that they can be invisible. Also the Italian word Strega refers both to witches and Striges.

I have never come across a Shtriga or a victim of one, so I do not really know if they do exist, but the “High Albania”, as well as some other books, mention such stories as to be true. You choose!

What’s your sign?

I am a Gemini, however, I have had a full chart reading done which was amazing.  It is so much more revealing  than your birth sign.  It had so much to say about my journey here on Gaia and as a human in general and gave me insight to what my goals in this life entail. I am definitely meant to be here and help others on their personal earthly journeys.  I am more than honored to be here at such a critical time on our planet as we transform  to a more healing place.

Botswana Agate Ring with Silver for just 15$
Are you a fan of the Occult, are you a witch if I may ask?

I personally do not like labels but I indeed identify myself as wiccan and as a High Priestess.  The occult, well I have seen ghosts and helped guide them.  I have seen orbs and people in my crystal ball.  I definitely would say that leans towards occultism.  I do think the word occult in and of itself has a bad feel to it which saddens me because I believe all things can be good if used correctly.  I find the word to have a twist towards the dark when used incorrectly by religions that are less open-minded.

So Kattina did you always like gems and played as a kid with them ?

I collected rocks and gems as a child, four leaf clovers, snails, seashells and played in the woods most of the time.  In my early 20’s I lived on an old gold mining property with caves and I collected crystals.  I was actually upset that someone would take the gold and leave the goodies behind but I was meant to find them.  I did not understand their meaning yet, but knew they were special.

How did you decide to make Jewels for Life?

As with all things in life, I had a huge catalyst of events that prompted me to buy jewelry.  When I saw the cost of true raw gems I was flabbergasted.  This kicked my third eye into high gear and I began to understand and study the meanings of earthly gifts.  Feeling them and their vibrations while visiting a gem shop and finding the right gem calling you as you walked in.  I followed that instinct and it has truly made my line of jewelry at Goddess Inspired Jewelry a divine calling.

What impact do you believe that Gems have in our lives?

Gems make people feel good.  Every gem stone has its own meaning and vibration. Gaia put them here to help us on our journey. When men and women wear a gem that calls to them, they feel safe and joyful and that is truly my goal in my line of jewelry.

Which is your favorite Gem?

I have craved citrine since my awakening.  I went to my local gem shop and found a citrine crystal point and it just felt good in my hands.  I lost it once and for two months I could actually feel it calling me.  Ironically, it was found and came back to me.  That was when I realized the importance of gems having personalities of their own and we may have a relationship with them but they also have a oneness with us as well.

I’ve noticed that your prices are really nice (!) did you intentionally decrease them?

Rose Quartz Pendulum

As a wiccan, especially a beginner, you feel like you need so many things that people or books recommend.  I found the prices shocking to say the least.  I started making items for friends as gifts and they would actually comment on how much it meant to them that I made them for them.  It made them feel good about who made them, why they were made, and how they felt.  I feel divinely inspired every time someone tells me how the jewelry makes them feel.  I do not do this to make money, although it is nice, but I get more out of a sale when someone says how wonderful they feel wearing it.  One of my first custom orders was for a very wonderful woman (who also inspired the name Goddess Inspired Jewelry) and she was so proud of her new piece she began calling me Goddess Kattina and mentioned SHE felt like a Goddess wearing her new pieces.  There is no cost to that feeling of helping someone.  My prices are for the actual cost of the items not for the time I put in.  Everyone should feel they are wonderful humans put on earth for a purpose and gifting yourself with a piece of jewelry and gems is the best gift you can give yourself and pass on to friends and grandchildren, a part of oneself that can last for lifetimes.  I consider my creation as a time of mediation and calm.  I can’t price a divine calling.  I truly am blessed with a gift whenever a person says how they feel when they receive my jewelry and gems.  Since ancient times humans have used jewelry to express who they are.  I honor this and find walking the path to aid them on this journey a universal sign of the changes the earth is going through.  We are heading to a wonderful place of healing and gems are important to our earthly survival.
Which piece of jewelry is your personal favorite?

I love ANYTHING with the Goddess symbol and the triple moon.  I worked in the birth field previous to this endeavor and the femininity of those symbols and the power they hold for women as creators of life is irreplaceable.

Do you like anything more to say to our Readers?

I just want people to know to follow their hearts.  I quit my day job as a breastfeeding specialist to begin my new life as an artisan.  It has expanded beyond my wildest dreams and continues to give.  Do what makes you happy and people will feel that empowerment and this is the key to healing ourselves and this planet as a whole.

Herb analysis: Thyme, the herb of Courage

Thyme (Sci. Name: thymus vulgaris) is one of the best examples that indicate how invaluable the treasure of Nature is.  Thyme from a therapeutic perspective acts as an excellent lung cleanser and will help to clear your lungs from phlegm and calm your cough. In addition, thyme is a natural antiseptic and has been repeatedly used to treat wounds and falling eyes. Thyme tea will relieve excessive gas from the stomach and both the aroma and the tea of thyme will help you against headaches and believe it or not it will do miracles after a hangover (in case you regret your party last night :-). In Greece, honey made by the pollen of thyme is considered of very good quality and is used as a natural antibiotic, as it will help you boost your immune system.

Thyme is classified in literature as a herb of Sun and/or Venus and it is used for multiple magical purposes.  If placed in your pillow or above your bed it is said that will help you have a relaxing night sleep and will protect you against nightmares. This is why thyme is considered one of the ingredients of a magic dreaming pillow. Thyme was also sacred to the Druids and a place where wild thyme grows would have been considered a powerful place, blessed by the Gods.  If burnt, thyme will help purify the area and Ancient Greeks and Romans burnt thyme in their temples and sacred places to ward off negativity and raise the spirits, as thyme brings an aura of active tranquility. By the phrase “active tranquility” I mean that the smell of burnt thyme will help you relax but will lift your spirits as well, as it is known as a herb that promotes courage. A magical sachet with soil from the earth, thyme and borage will give courage to the person who carries it.

The connection between thyme and the passage to other worlds can be traced through history as it was placed in coffins to ensure that the person will have a safe passage to the otherworld and will also make the spirit of the ghost more courageous in order to face the challenges of the afterlife. In addition, thyme was carried by family members and friends to help them overcome the death of a loved one and gain the courage to combat depression. Furthermore, thyme is also known as one of the herbs that allows the witch to contact entities from other worlds and according to my experience it is a good herb to use if you would like to communicate with the Faeries as it will help you combat your insecurities. If you would like to contact the Faeries blow dried thyme leaves in the wind. In France, it was a common practice to plant thyme in the garden if you would like the faeries to pay you a visit, while in Shakespeare’s play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Oberon, King of the Fairies states that “I know a bank where the wild thyme blows” potentially referring to the bed of Titania, Queen of Fairies.

In addition to the above, thyme is considered to bring good fortune in financial, gambling and love issues as it will help you boost your self-confidence. Thyme is a basic ingredient to the famous Hoodoo recipe Three Jacks and King oil (and YES! we will give your the recipe! stay tuned) which was widely used by gamblers especially in card games (that’s where the oil got its name from).

Use Thyme :

To promote courage
To contact the Fairies ( and entities from other worlds)
To ward off nightmares
In rites of passage (can be both used in birth and funeral rituals)
In gambling
To treat your hangover

Midsummer / Litha Spells : Glorify your Life

candle magic spellsMidsummer Spells : Glorify your Life
(Or Midwinter Spells : Start Anew)

At 03:47 U.T. (Universal Time) on 22nd of June the Sun will enter the sign of Cancer signifying the Summer Solstice (a.k.a. Midsummer, Litha etc). The Sun will be in his full glory, we will celebrate the longest day of the year. If you are living in the Southern hemisphere of Earth then this will be the Winter Solstice (or Midwinter, Yule, etc) for you, and the Sun will reborn. For both hemispheres the day will be of great power.

You can use this power to make your life better by the spell I am going to give you here. There are little differences in both cases, but the basic spell remains the same.

If you are living on the Northern hemisphere cast the spell while the Solstice is approaching (that is before the 22nd of June), while if you are living on the Southern hemisphere cast the spell on the day of the Solstice (after 03:47 UT) or the next day.

You can combine the powers of Midsummer with the powers of the Moon, using either the day of the third quarter of the Moon (11.06.2012, 10:41 UT) or  the day after the New Moon (which will take place on 19.06.2012, 15:02 UT). Translate the UT to your local time in order to find the exact days.

What you’ll be needing:
* A White or Zodiac candle (click here to pick your appropriate Color!) to represent you
* A White candle (or a second white candle if you are using white for yourself)
* A Green candle
* A Red or Pink candle
* A Gold candle (or a second green candle)
* A Yellow candle
* Your altar candles (number and type varies according to your path, in the picture there are two as I use two white altar candle, but do as you usually do).
candle magic spell glorify you life diagram pentacle Sigil of Midsummer Litha Summer Solstice
Arrange your candles according to the diagram
* Your ritual knife or a pin
* Your zodiac oil (optional)
* Frankincense essential oil or Sun magic oil (for Midsummer) or Myrrh essential oil or the Rosarium blends’ Phoenix oil, or Yule oil (for Midwinter)
* Dragon’s Blood ink or black Indian/China ink or charcoal pencil
* A sheet of rice paper or white cardboard (rice paper has more power, cardboard is easier to be used)
* Six identical candleholders
* Incense (the same as the oil you are using)
* An incense burner and charcoal disks.

Hand draw (I know it will not be absolutely perfect but it will work better) the symbol shown in the picture using the pencil or either ink. I would suggest Dragon’s Blood ink for Midsummer and the carbon based ones for the Midwinter.

Now the symbol is a pentagram inside a Sun symbol, and not a circle, a pentagram and a dot, so first draw the Sun symbol and then the pentagram.

Prepare the altar as shown. Put the five candle holders on the five points of the star, and the sixth on the dot of the Sun symbol. Then place the zodiac, or white candle in its holder and the rest of the candles as so: 1. White, 2. Green, 3. Red or Pink (it is for love, so chose the quality you want), 4. Gold, 5. Yellow.

Take a shower. Go to the room wearing either nothing at all or some clean clothes representing the kind of life you want to live. Not your ceremonial clothes.

Now, anoint the altar candles as you usually do (or anoint them with the oil if you don’t have a constant pattern). Light the Altar candles and the incense. Take some deep breaths as the incense smoke is preparing the atmosphere.

Invoke the Solar and / or rebirthing Gods/Spirits of your choice.

Now, take your Zodiac candle and anoint it inscribe with your knife or with the pin your name and birthday. Then anoint it with your zodiac oil, if you have chosen to use one or with the other oil you are going to use. To anoint your zodiac candle (and all the others, and even the altar candles, if you have not another pattern that you usually anoint your altar candles) hand the candle with its wick towards you and anoint the candle from its middle to the wick towards you, and then reverse the position of the candle and anoint it from the middle to the bottom towards you.

Put your zodiac candle in its holder and using fire from the altar candles light it saying:

“This is me, (your name).
My spirit always burns as surely and brilliant as this flame does.”

Now pick the white candle and inscribe WISDOM on it. Anoint it with the oil (not the zodiac) as described before and put it on its holder. Light the candle saying:

“Here lights true Wisdom”.

Let your hand touching the base of the holder, and feel what the meaning of true wisdom is. When you are ready, slowly move the holder in a straight line, until it reaches your candle, saying:

“Now Wisdom moves in to become a part of me.
Let it become one with me,
so that I will always be wise and well guided”.

Now, pick the Green candle and inscribe HEALTH on it. Anoint it with the oil as described and put it on its holder. Light the candle saying:

“Here lights perfect Health”.

Let your hand touching the base of the holder, and feel the energy and meaning of perfect health. When you are ready, slowly move the holder in a straight line, until it reaches your candle, saying:

“Now Perfect Health moves in to become a part of me.
Let it become one with me,
so that I will always enjoy perfect health”.

The same way prepare the Red or Pink candle inscribingLOVE on it. Light it saying:

“Here lights Love”.

Touching the base of the holder, make clear to yourself how love should express itself to your life, being it with friendship, partnership, sexual encounters, romantic relationships and so, and so. When you are ready slowly move the holder in a straight line, until it reaches your candle, saying:

“Now Love moves in to become a part of me.
Let it become one with me,
so that I will always love and be beloved”.

Follow the same procedure inscribeWEALTH on the golden candle, and light it saying:

“Here lights Wealth and abundance”.

Same as before realize what you are summoning and while moving the candle say:

“Now Wealth and Abundance move in to become a part of me.
Let them become one with me,
so that I will always enjoy much wealth and abundance”.

Same procedure goes for the Yellow candle. The inscription is “CONFIDENCE” and lighting it you say:

“Here lights Confidence”

You feel the meaning of having confidence to yourself and to the ways of life and while moving the candle toward yours say:

“Now Confidence moves in to become a part of me.
Let it become one with me,
so that I always have confidence to myself,
and know that all is and always be good”.

Now take the censer and cense the candle making clockwise circle and keep repeating:

“Now my life is what I want. All is good. All is good.”

Or if it is the Midwinter say:

“Now my life starts anew. All is good. All is good”.

Continue censing the candles and repeating the phrase for as long as you need to raise the energy. When you have raised it to its pick, land it on your zodiac candle.

Let the candle burn themselves out. Never leave burning candle unattended, especially in this case that there is a paper underneath them.

Keep the rice paper or the cardboard for future use, and enjoy your glorious new life.

Have fun!

Who's this God? *Apollo, the God of Light and Arts

Apollo: The God of Light and the Arts

Apollo is without a doubt the most handsome, the most radiant and the most masculine God of the Greek Pantheon. He is the God of the Sun that casts his rays and shines for both the Earth and the human kind, while his light could pierce the darkest of thoughts in order to illuminate and reveal the truth. The Ancient Greeks favoured and honoured Apollo more than any other God and one will not exaggerate by stating that Apollo was and still is the very soul of Greece, both ancient and new.

Apollo was the fruit of the union and love between Zeus and Leto and was born at the sacred island of Delos along with his twin sister Artemis, the Greek Goddess of the Hunt. It is said that when he was born a golden light surrounded Delos. Apollo was nurtured with nectar and ambrosia, the sacred food of the Gods, and he became so handsome that his father, Zeus, proclaimed him God of Light. Phoebos, another sacred name for Apollo meaning shining one, was riding the Chariot of the Sun every morning and shed his light to the world.

Furthermore, Apollo is the God of Music and Poetry and that may be one of the main reasons why the Ancient Greeks respected and cultivated the Arts to such a great extent. The Nine Muses ( Divine Keepers and Protectresses of the Arts) were the inseparable company of Apollo; the Muses were entertaining him with their dance and songs, while he was playing his lyre that produced a Divine Sound. In addition, Apollo is the God of Civilisation and Moral Principles and was against all kinds of brutality, evil and anarchy. But Apollo was famous for his battling skills as well, as he could easily send his punishment from afar with his golden bow and arrows that never missed their target.

As the God of Light, the light that penetrates all darkness, Apollo became the God of Prophecy. It is said that he wandered around all Greece when he decided to found an Oracle in order to reveal his divine will to humans. Alas, the place he chose, at a slide of the mountain Parnassus, was inhabited by a snake of enormous size and strength that was known to the old world by the name Python. Apollo managed to kill Python with his skills and at that site the Oracle of Delphi was founded. Many kings, warriors and commoners consulted the Oracle of Delphi in order to seek answers to their questions and put their troubled mind at peace but according to Heracleitos (one of the greatest Ancient Greek Historians): “Apollo neither reveals the truth nor he hides it, but he only gives signs” as a God will never answer with a simple yes or no answer. Instead Apollo will allow the requester to find the true answer on his own; guided by the signs that Apollo gives to him.

Apollo had plenty of affairs and dived in many erotic adventures with both mortal and immortal women. However, he was the first known God to have a male partner as well, the incredibly handsome Prince of Sparta, Hyacinth (and it true that the flower was named after him).

The celebration of Apollo as a Sun God was taking place during Spring and Summer. The sacred days of Apollo were the first and the seventh day of each month.

The sacred animals of Apollo that walked on land were the wolf and the deer. From the birds: the swan, the crow and the vulture and from the animals that lived in the sea the dolphin which name resembles that of His Oracle, Delphi. Bay and the palm tree were sacred to Apollo as well. Other symbols of Apollo were the Lyre, the tripod, omphalus and the bow.

Apollo was worshipped as a life giving and healing God but as a life taking God as well. Like the rays of the sun he can overwhelm a person’s life and he was considered capable of giving a quick and sudden death. A heart attack was explained as the choice of Apollo to pierce a person’s heart with one of his sacred arrows. However such a death was considered to be a divine decision, a blessing rather than a tragedy, as a person will be free from the difficulties of life.

Finally, Ancient Greeks depicted Apollo always as a handsome young man, filled with strength and life. They adored his as he was always by their side helping them see the truth and cut their way through deception. And for a country that is bathed in light, who could pick a more appropriate Divine representative rather than the Sun God, Apollo?
