Also called the Angel flower, Yarrow is called in greek Achillea, like the greek hero Achilles who was taught about the magical properties of this herb from the wise Centaur, Chiron.
This special herb, praised by the Greek and Celts, was used in many ceremonies and rituals. Summoning deities and angels was believed to help the witch banish demons and negative entities and perform exorcisms. It was also used to summon any quality missing from their lives, like wealth and love. Last but not least, Witches used Yarrow to summon magical powers.
Because of all the above, Witches used Yarrow for many reasons:
- Witches used to create mojo bags filled (sometimes even solely) with Yarrow to stimulate courage. In times of need, they conjured power from this Angel flower by just holding a mojo bag of it in their hands and asking for divine help. It is believed that it can banish fear away from the witch.
- Yarrow is used in all summoning spells, as it is believed that can stimulate the Spirit Realm in so many ways.
- Actually, long before cell phones were invented, Witches used this herb as a telepathic messenger. They used to cut a stalk into the same number of pieces as the number of Witches they wanted to communicate. Each member of the coven got one piece. Then, every-time they wanted to communicate with a member of the Coven, witches picked up their magic telephone (piece of the stalk) and passionately though of this person. According to the old grimoires, the Witch would soon answer and communicate.
