Middle Ages manuscript about Merlin and king Arthur has been discovered in Bristol University’s library. These important fragments of an old manuscript from the middle Ages, tell a slightly different story about Merlin the Mage, king Arthur and the Holy Grail.
A librarian from the Special Collections of Bristol University, discovered seven hand-written fragments – dating back to 13th-century – of a very interesting manuscript according to BBC. Based on special analysis run from the Scientists of Bristol University, the manuscripts tell a slightly different story. “We are all very excited to discover more… these fragments of the story of Merlin are a wonderfully exciting find, which may have implications for the study not just of this text but also of other related and later texts that have shaped our modern understanding of the Arthurian legend” said Dr Leah Tether, of the International Arthurian Society.
Surprisingly enough, the manuscript gives much more details and builds the ‘depth’ of the characters we loved from the classic tale. Manuscript gives also more information about the battles that took place. Furthermore, we read a story of the ‘Battle of Trèbes’, during which Merlin the mage, helps Arthur to uplift morale of Arthur’s forces with an inspiring speech. Moreover, Arthur’s troops receive the unexpected help from Merlin’s friend, a real Dragon who spits fire.
Experts are trying to find where do these fragments come from as the traces are blurred.
