New Moon in Scorpio, November 8-9, 2026: The Dark Moon That Holds the Keys. Predictions for ALL Zodiac Signs

Secrets surface, debts come due, and two planets prepare to turn direct. This is the most peculiar New Moon of the year, and it arrives with Mars ruling it from the throne of the Sun. Welcome to the night of the New Moon in Scorpio, November 9, 2026: The Dark Moon That Holds the Keys

New Moon in Scorpio, November 8-9, 2026

Every year the Sun passes through Scorpio, and every year the Moon meets it there in the dark. Most Scorpio New Moons are quiet and inward. This one is different.

On November 9, 2026, the Sun and Moon join at 16°53′ Scorpio. Mercury and Venus are both retrograde at that moment, and both will station direct four days later. Mars, the ruler of the New Moon, sits in Leo beside Jupiter and the South Node, closing on a conjunction that becomes exact on November 16. Underneath it all, the rulership chain of the chart runs in a closed circle: the Sun gives power to Mars, and Mars gives power back to the Sun.

The New Moon is always a seed planted in the dark. This time the seed goes into the deepest soil of the zodiac, at the point where secrets, debts, inheritances, fears, and desires are buried. What you start now starts underground, and it will grow whether you watch it or not.

✦ A New Moon in the Moon’s fall ✦

The New Moon is always a seed planted in the dark. This time the seed goes into the deepest soil of the zodiac, at the point where secrets, debts, inheritances, fears, and desires are buried. What you start now starts underground, and it will grow whether you watch it or not.

The Chart: Reading the Dark Moon

Scorpio is the sign of the Moon’s fall, the place where the Moon is furthest from her exaltation in Taurus. Traditional astrologers read the fall as a place where a planet cannot act openly or comfortably. The Moon stands for the body, the public, daily life, and emotional security. In Scorpio she is pushed below the surface, made to process and digest rather than simply feel.

This is why Scorpio New Moons so often bring up feelings people did not know they were carrying. At the fall, the Moon is not weak. She is concealed. Her strength works in private, the way roots spread out of sight before anything shows above ground.

The lord of the lunation: Mars in the house of the Sun

In the ancient method, the most important planet in any lunation chart is the ruler of the sign where the New Moon takes place. Here that is Mars, the traditional lord of Scorpio.

Mars is at 22°40′ Leo. Counted from Scorpio, Leo is the tenth sign, so Mars stands in the superior square to the New Moon. Hellenistic (ancient Greek) astrologers called this position overcoming: the planet in the tenth sign from another dominates it, presses down on it, and has the final word. The lunation’s own ruler sees it, which makes the New Moon effective, and dominates it, which makes it forceful. Whatever begins now will be pushed rather than coaxed.

Mars is not alone. Jupiter is two and a half degrees ahead in Leo, and the South Node sits between and around them at about 25½° Leo. Mars is applying to Jupiter, and the conjunction becomes exact on November 16. Having the greater benefic beside the lord of the lunation changes the tone. Mars brings the drive and Jupiter brings the scale, the confidence, and the protection. Mars with Jupiter is ambition with a mandate.

The South Node complicates the picture. The Moon’s nodes mark where eclipses happen, and the South Node has long been read as a point of diminishment: whatever it touches is reduced, released, or stripped back. Jupiter lands exactly on the South Node on November 12, and Mars follows. This is generosity at the point of depletion, expansion meeting its limit, a promise that costs more than it seemed to.

The closed circle: Sun and Mars in mutual reception

Follow the rulership chain. The New Moon is in Scorpio, ruled by Mars. Mars is in Leo, ruled by the Sun. The Sun is in Scorpio, ruled by Mars.

The chain never reaches a final ruler. It loops. The Sun and Mars are in mutual reception by domicile: each is a guest in the other’s house, and each hosts the other. In the old texts, mutual reception lets planets help each other and trade resources, almost as if each were in its own sign.

At the level of meaning this is a closed circuit between authority (the Sun, Leo, the crown) and force (Mars, Scorpio, the blade). Power feeds force and force feeds power. That can be very productive when the energy is directed: a self-reinforcing loop of courage, conviction, and decisive action. It also tends to shut out other voices. A closed circle does not ask for outside opinions.

The bound chain: Mercury holds the hidden key

The bounds (also called terms) are the oldest layer of dignity in Hellenistic astrology. They divide each sign into five unequal segments, each ruled by a planet. The bound lord shows the quality of the specific degree, the fine print under the headline.

At 16°53′, the New Moon falls in the bounds of Mercury (Mercury rules 11° to 19° of Scorpio in the Egyptian system). So Mercury carries the fine print of this lunation.

Mercury is retrograde at 6°53′ Scorpio, in the same sign as the New Moon and ten degrees ahead of it. Those ten degrees put Mercury under the Sun’s beams. It passed its heart-of-the-Sun conjunction on November 4, so it has already been reborn in the solar fire and now sits on the eastern side of the Sun, getting ready to rise again as a morning star.

The bound chain also closes, just as the domicile chain did:

– Mercury is at 6°53′ Scorpio, in the bounds of Mars (0° to 7° of Scorpio).
– Mars is at 22°40′ Leo, in the bounds of Mercury (18° to 24° of Leo).

Mars and Mercury are in mutual reception by bound. So the hidden machinery of the chart is the same loop at a finer scale: the warrior and the messenger hand the keys back and forth. Strategy serves force and force serves strategy. Words become weapons and actions become messages.

When Mercury stations direct on November 13 at 5° Scorpio, it is still in the bounds of Mars and still about two degrees from a square to Pluto at 3° Aquarius. A station is a planet at its most concentrated. Mercury standing still in Scorpio, squared by Pluto, is a classic picture of information being pulled out of hiding: files opened, confessions made, truths that will not stay buried.

Venus, morning star in her own house

Venus is retrograde at 23°19′ Libra. That is her own domicile, and she is also in her own bounds (21° to 28° of Libra belong to Venus). She is essentially dignified twice over, and she has already passed her conjunction with the Sun and rises before dawn as the morning star.

The morning-star Venus was traditionally treated as a different expression of the same planet: more active, more combative, more willing to go first. Retrograde in Libra, she is reviewing the terms of every partnership, alliance, and agreement, and she is doing it from strength. She stations direct on November 13, the same day as Mercury.

Venus is in Libra, the sign just before Scorpio, so she is in aversion to the New Moon. She cannot see it by any classical aspect. She is not part of the New Moon’s story directly, but she governs the background question it rests on: what was agreed, what is fair, and what each party actually owes.

Venus also matters for sect. The water triplicity is ruled by Venus by day and Mars by night, with the Moon participating. Which of the two governs the lunation depends on whether it happens in daylight or darkness where you are.

The background: outer planets in long conversation

The slow planets set the stage this New Moon plays on:

Saturn and Neptune in Aries, both retrograde, are still working through their long conjunction near the start of the zodiac: the dissolving of old structures and the slow, uncertain design of new ones. Both are in aversion to Scorpio, so they do not touch the New Moon directly. Saturn is ruled by Mars, though, which ties Saturn’s long project back to this month’s lord of the lunation.
Pluto in Aquarius trines Uranus in Gemini, an aspect exact at the end of November. This is a long-running current of technological and social change, flowing rather than clashing.
Pluto squares Scorpio by sign from Aquarius, and is close to a degree-based square with Mercury. Pluto was the modern ruler assigned to Scorpio, and here it stands in hard aspect to the sign it is said to govern, pressing on what is concealed.

World Predictions

Ptolemy kept his weightiest forecasts for eclipses and for the lunations before the solstices and equinoxes. He also taught that each month’s New and Full Moon gives more particular indications, read through the planet that rules the lunation degree. With Mars as lord, overcoming the New Moon from Leo, beside Jupiter and the South Node and locked in mutual reception with the Sun, the month ahead points to the following themes.

Power and force in a closed loop.

Expect bold, unilateral moves justified by pride, honor, or “strength”. The danger is a feedback loop with no outside check, where each escalation seems to justify the next.

Debts, taxes, inheritances, and shared money.

Scorpio is the eighth sign of the natural zodiac, the place of other people’s money. Through the end of November, expect debt to come forward as a story: sovereign debt, credit markets, insurance, pensions, estates, and the hidden liabilities on balance sheets.

Secrets, leaks, and investigations.

Mercury stationing direct in Scorpio, in the bounds of Mars and under pressure from Pluto, is close to the textbook signature for exposure. Intelligence matters, whistleblowers, documents released or seized, surveillance controversies, forensic audits, and cold cases reopened are all likely. What was said privately during the retrograde can become public after the station.

Agreements renegotiated.

Venus stationing direct in her own sign tends to end a review period on alliances, trade terms, and partnerships with a result rather than a collapse. Treaties and contracts that wobbled since early October can be re-signed on better-defined terms. Venus in her own house favors a fair outcome, but only for the side willing to state clearly what it wants.

Who’s Favored, Who’s Challenged

Favored

Scorpio: the New Moon falls in your sign. Its ruler is strong and active, and four days later the planet holding your hidden key turns direct. This is a true personal new year.
Cancer and Pisces: your fellow water signs receive the New Moon by trine. It brings ease, emotional clarity, and creative or spiritual openings.
Virgo and Capricorn: a supportive sextile brings useful conversations, practical alliances, and opportunities that reward effort.

Challenged

Leo: Mars, Jupiter, and the South Node are all in your sign, squaring the New Moon. Your power is real, but so is the cost of overreaching.
Aquarius: the North Node and Pluto in your sign square the New Moon. Ambition grows, along with pressure from people above you.
Taurus: the New Moon falls opposite your sign. Partnerships demand honesty and some negotiation.

Mixed

Aries and Libra: Aries is ruled by Mars, the lord of the lunation, and gets both its momentum and its volatility. Libra gets a strong Venus in her own sign and a New Moon in the house of income, so finances improve once Venus turns direct.

The New Moon in Scorpio for Every Zodiac Sign

Read for your Sun sign and your Rising sign. Your Rising sign often describes events more precisely and gives the more accurate reading.

Aries

The New Moon falls in your eighth house, the place of shared money, debts, intimacy, and the things you prefer not to discuss. Mars, your ruler, is the lord of this lunation, so the push for change is coming from you, not at you. Now is the time to refinance, settle an old obligation, renegotiate a joint account, or have a long-postponed conversation about trust. Mars and Jupiter meet in your fifth house on November 16, bringing a burst of confidence for romance, creative risk, and play. Let the eighth-house work come first. You will enjoy the fifth-house rewards more once nothing is hanging over you.Read your Sun Sign and your Rising Sign? Find your Rising here for Free!

Taurus

The New Moon falls opposite your sign, in your seventh house of partners, contracts, and open rivals. A relationship, business or personal, is ready for a new beginning. That might mean a new agreement or an honest renegotiation of the old one. Venus, your ruler, is retrograde in her own sign in your sixth house and stations direct on November 13. Daily routines, work duties, and health habits settle after weeks of revision. Squares from Leo to your fourth house may bring family pressure or household changes. Stand firm, but listen. The person across the table this month may be seeing something you cannot. Read your Sun Sign and your Rising Sign? Find your Rising here for Free!

Gemini

The New Moon lands in your sixth house of work, health, routines, and service. Mercury, your ruler, is the bound lord of this lunation and turns direct on November 13, still in your sixth house. This is the right moment to rebuild a daily routine, change your approach to health, or finally fix the recurring problem at work. Something hidden about a job, a colleague, or your body may become clear around the station, and that clarity is useful. Mars and Jupiter energize your third house, so conversations, short trips, and writing projects pick up fast. Say what you mean and keep your notes. Read your Sun Sign and your Rising Sign? The New Moon falls in your fifth house of pleasure, romance, children, and creative work, in a gentle trine to your sign. This is one of the most favorable New Moons of the year for you. Begin a creative project, open your heart to someone, or simply allow yourself joy without having to earn it first. The Moon, your ruler, is in her fall here, so the feelings run deeper than usual and they are real. Mars and Jupiter in your second house bring money and the confidence to ask for it. Spend on what genuinely delights you, and keep away from the impulse purchase made to impress. Read your Sun Sign and your Rising Sign? Find your Rising here for Free!

Leo

The New Moon squares your sign from your fourth house of home, family, roots, and private life. At the same time, Mars, Jupiter, and the South Node are all in your first house. You are the most visible person in the room this month, and the New Moon asks what is happening behind the door you close at night. A move, a renovation, a family decision, or an inner reckoning about where you belong is starting. Jupiter on the South Node warns against promising more than you can give. Mars meets Jupiter on November 16 in your own sign, which is a real surge of power. Use it to build something lasting, not to win an argument. Read your Sun Sign and your Rising Sign? Working the Dark of the Moon

The old practice was to do nothing new until the first sliver of the Moon was seen. The dark night itself was kept for clearing, cleansing, and offerings at the crossroads. That rhythm suits this lunation. On November 9, clean the house, settle a small debt, burn a list of what you are releasing, and leave an offering for what guards the thresholds of your life.

Wait until the crescent appears in the evening sky, about a day or two later, and preferably until after November 13, when Mercury and Venus have both turned direct. Then write down your intentions and speak them aloud. Mars rules this cycle, so make your intention a verb, not a wish. Scorpio rewards depth over breadth, so choose one intention, not ten.

What you plant in the dark this month grows on its own schedule. Trust the roots.
